Catastrophic injuries present immediate and long term cost risks for the industry. Without proper management, recovery can be prolonged and more costly than necessary. M Hayes’ Catastrophic Injury program mitigates these risks with expert CAT nurse case managers countrywide with relationships and access to Regional Trauma Centers and Centers for Excellence.

Expert triage by our CAT Program Manager, with immediate dispatch of CAT case manager to the trauma center or facility ensures swift on site assessment and report to the account. Our CAT nurse case manager ensures appropriate and timely care for the injured person as well as conveys care and concern to the patient and family.

 

Catastrophic injuries requiring emergent care and potential for sub-acute care:

  • Spinal cord injuries and infarcts
  • Burns (1st, 2nd, 3rd degree; full thickness)
  • Traumatic brain injury
  • Closed head injury with loss of consciousness
  • Quadriplegia and paraplegia
  • Bilateral vision loss
  • Multi-trauma (two or more substantial injuries)
  • Chemical respiratory

M Hayes CAT Program

  • 24/7 referral unit: immediate response with CAT nurse dispatch same day to trauma center.
  • Triage: CAT Program Manager completes CAT-R, our catastrophic assessment and triage
    report, prior to CAT nurse dispatch to facility. Assesses severity of injury and appropriateness
    of transfer to Level I – II Trauma Center and Center of Excellence.
  • Certified CAT nurse case managers: stringent CAT nurse criteria for M Hayes certification
    includes clinical and catastrophic case management experience and national certification,
    as well as established relationships with Regional Trauma Centers and Centers of Excellence.
  • Medical Director: M Hayes' Medical Director consults on CAT cases as needed to assess the
    progress of care and intercede with medical providers to assist in determining the appropriate
    course of treatment.
  • Reporting: CAT-R triage report is emailed to account with recommendations immediately
    following triage and facility assessment. Status updates occur within 24 hours of each visit and
    formal reporting every 2 weeks.
  • Level of Service Review: CAT nurse assesses clinical pathways for recovery to evaluate the
    efficiency level of medical care and transfer to more appropriate level; also, the CAT nurse
    assesses case management level of service regarding acuity of medical care and patient
    condition for transfer to field medical case management.
